Hancock Park, Windsor Square, Larchmont and the surrounding neighborhoods are great for pet owners. Plenty of tree lined streets to walk your dogs and Larchmont Blvd makes walking your furry pal and grabbing a hot cup of coffee and a snack a breeze. If you have a kitty, then he/she is probably lounging on your floor somewhere in the latest sun spot of the day or gazing out the window at all the dogs walking by :).
If you’re anything like me you’re wondering what’s the best food for them to eat, do they need a new toy, bed or food bowl? Well let’s be honest it’s not really “need” so much as “want” in my household because I love to buy my cat new things. So what are some great places nearby where you can stock up on staples or do a little fun pet shopping?
Right in the heart of Larchmont Village on Larchmont Boulevard is The Barking Lot which is connected to the Larchmont Animal Clinic. I’ve often run in here on my way home from work and they have great off street parking plus friendly staff to help with any decisions. It’s not a huge store, but it’s an easy local option!
The Barking Lot carries a diverse array of items for dogs, cats, birds, fish, and reptiles. We carry holistic and traditional pet foods made in the USA. And our close association with the Larchmont Animal Clinic means our friendly staff is knowledgeable, and can assist you in finding the right product for your pet. We also offer pet supplies, toys, leashes and more. We can also make pet tags while you wait.
And the Larchmont Animal Clinic is conveniently located next door to take care of anything your furry pal might need.

West of Hancock Park but still close to home is The Urban Pet which offers a wide array of food, toys, classes and more. This store is a really good size and there’s off street parking on the right hand side. They also offer “fresh” options in their refrigerators for both dogs and cats. It’s hard to find a store with good fresh options for cats but this store has them. I’m a member of their membership program and that helps to save every time you buy plus they have member weekends where the savings really add up. There are also group and private training sessions available if your dog needs some help. The staff are incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the latest foods and I always come away from here with some good advice!
Here, it’s the personal interactions that are enjoyed while providing a friendly and knowledgeable staff to compliment the expansive collection of pet supplies (dog, cat, bird, small animal, and reptile) all offered at competitively low prices. The Urban Pet is a “lifestyle,” featuring over 80 brands of foods free from by-products, corn, wheat, or soy, hand selected supplies, dog obedience class, pet photography, vaccination and dental clinics.

On Melrose, near the Los Angeles Tennis Club, you’ll find Healthy Spot.
This is a fairly new location and a very welcome addition to the area. Parking is easy and the store has a fresh colorful vibe on the inside. They have a Healthy Rewards Program, social events such as Yappy Hours and an adoption program with cage free adoptions. Any place that hosts an event called Mutts & Mimosas is alright by me!!
At Healthy Spot, we know that your dogs and cats are more than just pets, they’re family. That’s why we are committed to providing pet owners with a full range of wholesome, organic food lines as well as a wide selection of treats, toys and accessories and more. We tirelessly track every pet food recall and choose to carry only the highest quality products. This way, you know if it’s Healthy Spot approved, it’s safe. Plus, our best-in-class grooming services and Small Dog Daycare help keep your dog healthy from the inside out!

It’s such a joy and a privilege to have a furry friend to come home to every day and I’m so happy we adopted our second cat, Baba a few years ago. He’s a constant source of love and laughter in our household.
If you know of any places nearby that should be included here, please let us know so we can update this post as time goes by.
